Nintendo Wii Behind Bars
Despite Nintendo’s effort, many people still didn’t manage to get a Nintendo Wii console this Christmas because of the shortage. Ironically, however, one group of people you might not expect to get their hands on Nintendo’s much sought after games console did.
Illegal immigrants and asylum seekers in the UK not only get to play with a Nintendo Wii, but also get to do so on 48″ plasma TV. The Daily Telegraph reports that detainees at Colnbrook Immigration Removal Center in Berkshire being sent back to their countries of origin get to enjoy playing games on the Nintendo Wii as well as other luxuries.
They can also buy goods at a store inside the facility and have them delivered to their cells by staff. Some detainees have Nintendo Wiis. If the consoles go wrong staff are sent to the nearest Argos to pick up a replacement. The music room has guitars and a drum kit. And there are £5 prizes for the winners of five-a-side tournaments.
The insider said 200 criminals had signed a letter demanding an improved satellite television service for the Africa Cup of Nations, which was granted within hours.
I guess after reading this, the number of immigrants in UK will rise, but I suppose once you’ve experienced that kind of luxury it can’t be much fun going back home to nothing.
